Scott Richards

CAD Design Engineer

Scott Richards is a CAD Design Engineer based in the technology centre at Aish. His key role is to covert specs submitted by Aish’s customers into working designs. Scott describes his roles as “being like a Saville Row tailor, polishing and adjusting designs to ensure they are completely fit for purpose”. It’s a role that offers variety and plenty of challenges, which suit Scott perfectly.

Prior to joining Aish 15 years ago, Scott was a contract design engineer working for companies such as Flight Refuelling. He then worked for Phillips designing amongst other things mobile phones, which provided a very different challenge with regards to ‘form over function’. In current role, function still beats form although Scott remarks “it is interesting to see how customers are now requesting aesthetic elements to design, to give their products something extra”.

Having been an apprentice himself, Scott is delighted to see the buoyant apprentice scheme at Aish. The growth the company has experienced over the last few years has had a significant impact on the Design team, which Scott admits has been a challenge. “There was a time not so long ago where everyone in the team got involved in all aspects of the product” Scott comments “including assembling parts at 3 o’clock in the morning to get them out the door!” Nowadays everyone has a more defined role as customers have demanded a process driven approach and Aish has developed and grown as a company.

Scott is optimistic for the future, and is looking forward to the challenges that face the business. “After an intensive period of growth, it will be nice to consolidate the changes” he comments. “I love working her at Aish because we are like one large family.” Family will certainly be on the life-long Dorset resident’s mind next month as he marries his partner Lesley and we wish them all the best for their future.
