Aish Technologies Wins FALCON Enclosures
Aish Technologies was been awarded the initial production build for a series of transportable enclosures for the UK’s new FALCON tactical communications system. FALCON Increments A and C will deliver secure broadband-like voice, data and video communications for the British Army and Royal Air Force respectively. It is designed to operate with communication and information systems such as Bowman, Cormorant and SKYNET V, and is compatible with other NATO systems.
The contract was awarded by BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (BAE Systems Insyte), leader of the FALCON Team comprised of best-in-class companies. The award to Aish Technologies follows an intensive period of development which, in close co-operation with BAE Systems Insyte’s design team, turned the concept model into a fully compliant product that has been value-engineered for optimum cost and ease of manufacturing.
The enclosures can accept 19” rack-mount modules in a number of configurations and ‘U’ heights of installed equipment. They are designed to be transported in army vehicles and utilised in forward bases and headquarters. The enclosures have to protect the installed communications modules against extremes of temperature, vibration and robust handling in a variety of deployments, whilst taking up as little space as practicable. This has been achieved by careful attention to thermal management and internal mounting to attenuate shock and vibration. The construction method has been chosen to provide a light and rigid shell that can maintain its structural and environmental integrity when subjected to typical battlefield handling.
Aish Technologies is very pleased to be chosen by BAE Systems Insyte as its enclosure supplier for this important programme. BAE Systems Insyte has been able to rely on Aish’s experience in protecting electronics in harsh environments, coupled with a proven ability to design for manufacture, to provide the most cost-effective solution for the FALCON programme. |
